My first photography project: Church Doors

Since the time I first picked up a camera, I’ve had an idea in the back of my mind: photographing church doors.

Why? Our culture is changing. Fewer of us walk through those doors today. More of us have walked out of them saying “I’ll never do that again.” Many of us walk by them every day feeling cold, not warmth.

I at least wanted to preserve a bit of what once was an integral part of our personal, community and civic lives.

No, churches are not perfect. Christians definitely aren’t. But both have done immense good for individuals, families, and communities all over the world.

I hope this project does more than capture architecture. I hope it leads some of us to reconsider how important faith has been to our history, and could be to our future. And maybe even some in church will thoughtfully consider the experience of walking through their doors.
